Learning Expedition on A.I. & Digital transformation
November 20th-22nd, Toulouse
We had the great pleasure and honor to gather in Toulouse an exclusive Norwegian delegation composed of 40 corporates and institutions to explore the potential for cooperation between the Aerospace and Energy industries.
This 3-day mission focused on Artificial Intelligence and Digital transformation with a tailor-made programme consisting of industrial visits, a conference and workshops. The event was organised in cooperation with our partners: Innovation Norway, the Norwegian Embassy in France, Scandinavian Design Group, Aerospace Valley, Energy Valley, Oslo Regionen, Norsk Industri, Institut Français, the Research Council of Norway and Toulouse Metropole.
Wednesday 20th of November
- French-Norwegian forum on A.I. & Digital transformation / Aerospace Valley HQ
We launched the mission with a French-Norwegian Forum on A.I. & Digital transformation at Aerospace Valley. 70 French and Norwegian participants exchanged on how we can build bridges between the French Aerospace and the Norwegian Energy industries in terms of Innovation. We gathered on this occasion 11 French and Norwegian start-ups offering new innovative solutions in these fields: Aerosoft France, Akira, CKP Engineering, Gisaia, Kineis, Nexeya, Ntention (video), Opt'alm, SimSoft Industry, Symetrie and TracSense.
In the afternoon, French actors such as Airbus, Thales and ANITI presented how they are embracing the digital transformation of the aerospace industry and shared their vision during a panel discussion with Norwegian key players (Optime Subsea, GKN Aerospace Norway and Broentech Solutions) animated by Scandinavian Design Group. The afternoon workshop session brought on the table the existing challenges and opportunities within and between these industries for a potential cooperation.
You can download the presentations from the French-Norwegian Forum below in the "Documentation" section.

- Industrial visit – Airbus Protospace, Fablab & A350 FAL
Toulouse is the home of Airbus's headquarters, but is also a site for many Airbus divisions. This day dedicated to industrial visits started with the visit of Airbus’s ProtoSpace facilities, providing the environment, means and tools to develop disruptive concepts and accelerate the pace of innovation. The delegation also visited the A350’s Final Assembly Line and flight preparation. Airbus has a wide range of activities in Toulouse: engineering (general design, systems and integration tests, definition of the structure and more), structural testing, materials processes development, systems organisation, flight tests, architecture and general design, integration tests and systems, propulsion, structural design and computation as well as aircraft painting and delivery.
- Industrial visit – LAAS-CNRS
In the afternoon, the participants met the top division of LAAS-CNRS, a research unit of the CNRS, the French National Center for Scientific Research, within the Department of Information and Engineering Sciences and Technologies. With 750 researchers, university faculty, engineers, technicians, post-docs and PhD students, LAAS is one of the key players in Systems research in the Midi-Pyrénées region, in France and in Europe. We exchanged on robotics and had a demo showing robots that could support the industry.
Friday 22nd of November
- Industrial visit – Hyperloop & EasyMile / Francazal airport
Francazal airport is the new hub for innovative autonomous transportation in Toulouse, with 55 hectares of urban reconversion, a project dedicated to experimentation of autonomous vehicles and drones. The site is the home to Hyperloop Transportation Technologies full-scale project as well as EasyMile’s test center, Norway’s first autonomous shuttle, the EasyMile’s EZ10 driverless shuttle.
We would like to thank our partners and all the participants in this immersion programme in Toulouse and we are looking forward to foster further cooperation in these fields. Follow-ups will be organized in 2020.
